FAQ

  • Do you have a location where I can meet the animals?

Although 100% foster based, our Founder has built a barn on her property where many of our dogs will go before finding foster or adoptive homes. This barn is a wonderful place for the dogs to decompress after leaving the shelter. While we do hold visits here, it is by appointment only. Many of our dogs are also in private foster homes so an an approved application will be required prior to a meet and greet

  • What is the adoption process?

We first ask that you fill out an adoption application in its entirety. The application can be found on the website or you can email us at dustytailsanimalrescue@gmail.com Once the physical application has been processed in its entirety. Once complete, you will receive an email letting you know you have been approved. We then require a meet and greet with the pet you are interested in. Pending the meet and greet goes well, you will be able to bring your new family member home!

  • What is included in the adoption fee?

Our adoption fee ranges anywhere from $325 to $500 based on age and health of the animal. Our adoption fee includes, age appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, deworming and a microchip. If a pet is heart worm positive we will also cover the cost of treatment before adoption.

Typically puppies under 6 months of age are $425 and adults over 6 months of age are $325.

The adoption fee reflects the care we have provided the animals with. Whatever an animal needs while in our care they will receive it. Heartworm treatment costs $1056.00 per dog to treat and almost every adult dog we help is positive. No one in our rescue is paid so the money from the adoption fee goes to helping the next dog in need.

  • Can I meet the pet before adopting?

We require all members of the household to meet the pet before being adopted. This will help both parties ensure the pet is a good fit for their family.

  • What is the foster application process like?

Similar to the adoption process, we will have you fill out the foster application form. We require a veterinary reference as well as two personal references. If renting, we will need permission from the land lord you are able to foster. Once approved, we will contact you with any dogs we may have needing foster.

  • What is included in fostering?

We are so grateful for all of our foster homes. We try to set them up for success as much as possible. We will provide a crate, collar, leash, and several toys. We do ask our fosters be willing & able to transport to veterinary appointments or adoption events. Fosters will have the first option to adopt their foster pet.

  • What happens if the adoption is not working out?

In our adoption contract, we require that any previous Dusty Tails animal, be returned to the rescue per the adoption not working out. We made a commitment to the pets in our care & they will always be welcome back. We will not refund an adoption fee if returning an animal.

An adopted animal in a home for more than 1 month will require a report from a trainer. This will allow us to understand the issues that have presented in the home and the best foster placement for that pet going forward

  • How to get involved?

We rely on our volunteers to help us change the lives of these shelter pups. We are so grateful for everyone who donates time out of their day to spend with the animals!

We have a group of volunteers who play with, exercise, clean, and bathe the pups on Mondays from 12-2. We also try to do fun crafts as many children attend! Crafts include peanut butter paintings, paw print pictures & more. An approved volunteer application and waiver is required prior to starting

We are also looking for help processing applications which can be done remotely.
